The Law of Attraction.

Standard

I’ve had my fair share of time spent on being down on myself, focusing on the negatives and never accepting who or what I was. Never feeling adequate. I’ve spent time disliking my mind for the way it shifts and changes and never stays the same, and disliking how emotional and sensitive I am. I’ve spent years disliking the part of me that choses to dislike, it was just never enough for me.

You know why I KNOW I’m good enough now? The Law of Attraction. Beating myself up isn’t going to solve anything but attract more dislike or even worse, hate. That’s time waste I can’t get back. I’ll be quite honest, I didn’t believe in the Law of Attraction at first just because I was close-minded to the idea of speaking and thinking something into existence.

You are what you eat and you are what you attract.

Sometimes we look so long at the closed door that we can’t see the many open doors that are all around us.

When you’re facing a challenge in life, it honestly can be difficult to get through it with a positive mindset. Not only that, we can focus so much on the negative aspect of the challenge that we forget that we can choose to let go of the negative aspects and focus in on what is positive.  And if a positive can’t be found, then we can at least trust and expect for the positive to show itself.

That closed door is actually a door that will take you in a whole other direction to the open door you are looking for. When a door closes, see that it is only a direction you are not supposed to be going then keep moving forward knowing that you have been given a chance to go in a whole other direction because of that challenge. An open door will always be there for you.

Another thing I’ve noticed, the way we treat ourselves comes from our environment and who we surround ourselves with. One of the biggest influences is social media. You get so caught up and “programmed” by social media that you begin to feel “less than” or like you’re not doing well enough because of this “perfect” image that it displays.

Here’s the thing. As soon as we stop being distracted by how unworthy or “less” we are, that’s when we start paying attention. That’s when we start to be aware of what’s truly around us. That’s when we start to be conscious of how the world functions by making us think we need to be, have, achieve, want, buy, own more.

It’s so funny because I’ve had SO many times where focus solely on the negative because the positive isn’t happening “quick enough for me.” For an example, let’s say I need money. In my mind, all I’m thinking about it, “OMG I need money RIGHT NOW. I need this, this, that AND THIS. I’m so screwed, I need money.” This literally happened to me before and a few days later of NOT focus on what I needed and not focusing on the fact that I didn’t have money, it came to me. What I needed, what I wanted, found its way to me, effortlessly.

What’s for you will always be for you. Less negativity, more positivity. Don’t sweat it all the time, God will always be on time.

Why You Aren’t Seeing Results in Losing Weight, Toning or Gaining Muscle.

Standard

One thing that I hear a lot from people is that what they’re currently doing isn’t getting them the results that they want or they find it hard to even do so. HECK YEAH it’s hard and it won’t be easy (TRUST me when I say it’s NOT easy, mainly to be consistent). HOWEVER, are you putting the W O R K in to really lose that weight/fat, tone and/or gain muscle? Often times people forget where it all starts: in the kitchen. Exercise and Nutrition are EQUALLY important but I emphasize nutrition a tad bit more, even for myself, to that get under control to achieve my goal first in order to attain the goal that I am trying to meet. Working out is honestly pointless if you eat poorly. You can go to the gym all you want and be the exact same size as you started or possibly can gain more weight. You won’t have the physical endurance to push through tough workouts if your nutrition is off. Unhealthy food choices, whether you’re eating too much fat, too many calories, or not enough of either, makes you feel sluggish and lackadaisical. You are what you eat: If you eat crap, you’ll feel like crap. If you eat great you’ll feel great. Nourish your body with quality foods that you can eat more of such as foods that are high in volume, but low in calories. This will help to fill your plate and your stomach without overdoing the calories. Load half of your plate with colorful vegetables and/or fruits and one-quarter of your plate with whole grains and/or starchy veggies, the other portion is protein and fats.

You can’t exercise off a bad diet. You’ve all heard someone say, “Would you fill your car up with bad quality gas? Imagine what kind of shape your car would be in if you constantly did so. Treat your body this way.”

You HAVE to constantly feed your muscles in order for them to grow. When you exercise, you are ripping muscle tissue so it is imperative to repair that with complex carbs, healthy fats, veggies and proteins to build that muscle. You HAVE to constantly feed your body what it needs for overall good health and wellness. Exercising uses a lot of your body’s resources and that needs to be replenished. Yes you will lose weight if you eat less in a day than you need to but it’s NOT healthy. Calorie restriction and skipping meals may seem like the clear path to weight loss, and you may lose weight doing so, but your weight loss will be slow and frustrating. More importantly, you will lose valuable muscle mass and ultimately you are sure to regain the weight you have lost. Fuel your metabolism and nourish your body with high-quality, nutrient-dense foods to stop battling your weight and lose fat forever. Eating less does not create the need to burn body fat. What it really does is create the need for the body to slow down. The body hangs on to body fat, so instead, it burns muscle tissue.

Why does the body hang on to body fat and burn muscle? What does your metabolism want more of when it thinks we are starving? Stored energy.

What is a great source of stored energy? Body fat.

So when our metabolism thinks we are starving, does it want to get rid of or hold on to body fat? It wants to hold on.

What does our metabolism want less of when we are starving? It wants less tissue (which burns a lot of calories).

What type of tissue burns a lot of calories? Muscle tissue.

So when our metabolism thinks we are starving, it gets rid of calorie-hungry muscle tissue. I’ve done the research and found that 70% of the weight lost while eating less comes from burning muscle, not body fat. Burning all this muscle means that starving ourselves leads to more body fat, not less, overtime. As soon as we stop starving ourselves, we have all the calories we used to have but need less of them, thanks to all that missing muscle and our slowed-down metabolism. Now our metabolism sees eating a normal amount as overeating and creates new body fat.

Aside from a nutritional stand point, SLEEP IS VITAL TO YOUR HEALTH. Sleeping allows you to relax your muscles completely and allow them to restore and recover. This means your muscles are actually inactive, which is a great time for them to repair themselves from the damage you’ve done while working out. Also, those who don’t get less sleep than others are more likely to binge eat unhealthy food because they develop a bigger appetite (hormones that increase your appetite kick into gear and will likely make you eat more than you would if well-rested). In addition to this, you burn a few calories when you sleep (by not eating for 7-9 hours and those calories burned during sleep are used to sustain vital functions in the body). SO GET YOUR SLEEP AND REPLACE THOSE CALORIES WHEN YOU WAKE UP!!!

The point of this all is just to say that if you’re serious about losing weight, gaining muscle and toning, it is vital that you get serious about it ALL the way around and not just in the gym.

For ANYONE around the world looking to lose weight or tone but can’t always make it to the gym, I HAVE A PLAN FOR YOU. Ask me how by commenting on this post! 🙂

Be Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable.

Standard

You want to know why some of everyone lacks a piece of self-confidence?

Because they are UNcomfortable.

That’s it? What does that mean?

We have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Routine things make you feel more at ease and in control, so you roll with that and become content on doing what’s “safe”. Guess who’s been guilty of that a majority of their life? ME. When you start to get uncomfortable in certain situations, this is what’s happening:

Your brain has this image of who you are already; your ego. When you start doing things that counteract that image, your brain then goes, “Whoa WAIT, hold on.. that’s not you! What are you doing? This isn’t who I know you to be. This could be dangerous for you.” NO, The feeling of being uncomfortable is your breakthrough. Then when you finally get past that, you’re like “Oh wow, that’s it? that wasn’t even that bad.” It sends a health memo to your brain like, “Okay, she got through this.” I have such a hard time pushing past who my brain thinks I am and honestly, the only way to truly do that, is to just DO IT. START IT. 9 times out of 10 that is extremely uncomfortable for most people because we feel as if we don’t know what we’re doing and have never done this before; pretty much like you’re unprepared. You know how to get out of that? ACT AS IF. Go into it like you know what you’re doing and soon, you’ll settle into becoming comfortable with it. Fear kills dreams more than failure every will.

You’ll never change your life until you change your daily routine. The secret of success is found in your daily routine.

When I workout, I give myself workouts that often times, I don’t like and know I have a hard time doing, yet it needs to get done. Nonetheless, I include them in my workouts anyway because I don’t want to be comfortable working out. I don’t want to exclude some workouts just because I know that I don’t like them and that they challenge me more than I think I can handle before actually doing it. I want to see what my body can do, how strong I can get, how great I can and will become and I feel like that’s what the gym is about. Constantly pushing yourself a tad bit further than you did before, every time you workout. Your fitness is 100% mental. Your body won’t go where your mind doesn’t push it.

inspiration

Don’t focus on what you can’t do, focus on what you can and just do it. When you focus on problems, you’ll have more problems. When you focus on possibilities, you’ll have more opportunities.

Quick Blog: More Info on Store-Bought Juices VS Fresh Juices

Standard

Here is a piece of an article that I’ve just read from the Juicing Business E-Course that I am currently taking, and just wanted to share to back up what I blogged about a couple of days ago on this topic. If you’re anything like me after learning about the juices that are labeled as “healthy” in stores, you can’t help but look at the juices in stores to see how it’s made and the nutrition label; and to be quite honest think twice about getting it.. if you’re a health-conscious person and/or care about the nutritional value of what you’re consuming.

..

Now there are juices in the supermarket that have a juice shelf life of around 20 days! What’s up with that? There are two popular ways to process these juices.

1. Pasteurization

Pasteurization is the process of heating the juice. You can also call it the process of creating soup from your juice. Soup Juice! Yum! Why would anyone do something like this? The two main benefits of pasteurization: It’s free from disease-causing germs, such as E. coli and Salmonella, and the juice shelf life will be extended to 100 days. But by killing the bad bacteria, it is also killing everything else that would be beneficial. This is not only a bad idea because of all the nutrients that get destroyed. It’s also a very competitive market, because those are the juices that are on the shelves already. You can not compare freshly produced juice with pasteurized juice.

2. High Pressure Processing Also (HPP) or Pascalization

HPP is a relatively new way of extending the shelf life of products. With this method, you can preserve juice by using extremely high pressure on it. “Eliminating harmful bacteria while maintaining a higher yield of vitamin, minerals and enzymes” A higher yield than what? Probably pasteurization. Because there aren’t enough studies done on this topic to really conclude that it will still provide you with the same benefits as fresh juice, although this method definitely beats pasteurization. The high pressure application also happens after the juice is bottled, and the juice shelf life can be extended up to 30 days. Although the entire process can be very expensive.

Different processes to extend juice shelf life

Ask yourself the question. When you want great quality food, would you get a microwave meal, a frozen meal or a freshly made meal? The ingredients could all be the same, but the process of cooking creates a huge difference.

UPDATE: How My Juice Cleanse Went.

Standard

I made it through my 1 day Juice Cleanse! My boyfriend joined me as well and interesting enough, both of our bodies had 2 different reactions to it. I purposely drank the juices in a certain order because consuming sugars first thing in the morning will spike your blood sugar, followed by a crash. So the first juice I drank, I made sure it had more veggies in it to lower the sugar content in it. (This juice was my Beet Juice which consisted of Apple, Beet, Carrot and Ginger). I started my morning off with a warm cup of lemon water to kick-start my cleansing process by flushing out unwanted toxins and about an hour later, I drank my first juice. After that, I drank a total of 6 juices throughout the day, 2-3 hours apart while drinking 16oz of water in between juices. I actually felt more alive & alert than ever after my 2nd juice and didn’t find myself too deprived of wanting unhealthy foods, or any foods for that matter. I didn’t actually feel hungry unless I was around food or seen food but other than that, I disciplined myself and kept my mind off of it. **It’s all in your mind. A lot of times when you think you’re hungry, your body is just dehydrated and needs water.** My boyfriend had a headache and felt nauseous about midway through but as weird as this is going to sound, that is not necessarily a bad thing, and here’s why:

When you’re feeling sick, your body is telling you it doesn’t want certain things in the body but your mind is going off of what its used to. Symptoms of headache, nausea, dizzy/light-headedness, mood swings/irritability means the body is going through an adjustment period and all these are symptoms of your body flushing out unwanted toxins.

Once it was closer to the time I normally would go to sleep, I started to feel light-headed. If you are experiencing nausea, being light-headed or dizzy, it is okay to eat small portions of raw veggies, fruits or a small healthy snack. I drank water to alleviate the way I was feeling and ate an egg white and I ended up feeling a lot better. I wanted to mention that Juice Cleanses are not only for weight loss, so anyone that wants a kick-start to a heathier lifestyle can do this. The night of the cleanse, I had a good night’s rest and I started craving the juices that I had already drank the next day. **Feed your body what it needs. Take care of your body and it will take care of you.**

All in all my body reacted a lot better to the cleanse than I was expecting. Juice cleansing is a good lesson to not only show you the power of juicing, but the power of your mind.

Here are the few pictures that I actually remembered to capture of the juices apart of my cleanse.
